We are making important updates to all of our remaining Flash-based courseware.
In July of this year Adobe announced they will be withdrawing support and updates for Flash by the end of 2020. To ensure our customers consistently receive the best possible experience, Me Learning are making important updates to the remaining Flash-based courses in our catalogue.
By the end of February 2018 all our online course content will be updated to HTML5.
Why are we doing this?
Modern browsers, including Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Safari now share a common set of web standards meaning Flash (which is a third-party browser plugin) is no longer required to run content across browsers and devices.
Importantly, being a plugin, Flash represents a vulnerability in the browser’s security which can be targeted by malicious attacks. Consequently, Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Safari have now started to block Flash content by default, meaning it needs to be allowed within the browser settings before viewing.
Will the changes be noticeable?
In addition to heightened security, the update will provide a number of improvements to the user experience. As an open standard, HTML5 allows courses to work seamlessly across browsers and devices meaning you can access your training wherever you are.
Using the HTML5 standard means we can make continual improvements to accessibility wherever opportunities are identified. As an extra bonus, courses will also be gentler on your mobile device’s battery life and data usage, eliminating the need to run the extra processes associated with the Flash plugin.
This update is part of our ongoing commitment to improve the experience for our customers wherever possible and we feel it is an exciting step forward.
