The Freedom of Information Act 2000 was introduced to enable the public to access information from public authorities across the country. This means that those public authorities – that includes councils, government agencies and the like – are obliged to publish certain information about their activities and members of the public are allowed to request various types of information.
The Freedom of Information Act came into force in January 2000. It provides the public with the right to access information which is held by the Public Authorities.
