Organisations providing adult and children’s services across the Teeswide area wanted an ongoing programme of safeguarding training to keep both their own employees and partners up-to-date on the latest national standards.
The three safeguarding partnerships – Teeswide Safeguarding Adults Board (TSAB), Hartlepool and Stockton-on Tees Safeguarding Children Partnership (HSSCP) and the South Tees Safeguarding Children Partnership (STSCP) – joined forces to commission training to meet the needs of more than 10,000 professionals and practitioners who are in contact with vulnerable adults and children in the area.
They wanted to provide good quality safeguarding training, appropriate to a wide range of roles, for the maximum number of learners. To achieve this they also needed to have a flexible system which learners could access at a time and place to suit them and their employers which minimises the disruption to service delivery.
The solution
Me Learning provided a suite of online safeguarding training for the three safeguarding partnerships which aligns to nationally recognised competencies for adult and children’s services.
This was deployed through Me Learning’s own learning management system, providing secure access for authorised learners from any organisation, with access to training available at any time, from any device with an internet connection.
Each learner follows a training pathway matched to their role and they are able to access both safeguarding adults and safeguarding children training in one place. This enables them to access modules which are highly relevant to them so they can meet their individual training needs and specialisms. Modules cover a broad range of topics relating to the identification and management of different types of abuse and the correct procedures and good practice to follow when required. The package also includes specialist modules for professionals including Self-Neglect and Safeguarding Adults Reviews (SARs), Neglect – Children, and Hidden Harm (parental substance misuse; parental mental health and domestic abuse).
The impact
By working as one, the three safeguarding boards, across the boroughs of Stockton-on-Tees, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough and Redcar and Cleveland, were able to share costs including the ongoing use of the learning management system with an unlimited number of users. This meant that they were able to provide safeguarding training to the maximum number of learners at a reduced cost, compared to the market rate for similar safeguarding courses.
