Since 2018, Age UK Lancashire has partnered with Me Learning to modernise and strengthen training across its organisation. By implementing Me Learning’s full non-profit e-learning library alongside our Learning Management System, Form, the charity has transformed how learning is delivered to a geographically dispersed workforce.
From Fragmented Training to Flexible Digital Learning
Prior to working with Me Learning, Age UK Lancashire’s training provision was largely service-specific, classroom-based and fragmented. With teams spread across Lancashire and many colleagues working part-time or flexibly, accessing consistent, up-to-date training presented ongoing challenges.
Face-to-face sessions were often restrictive, particularly in critical areas where a consistent high standard of knowledge and skills are required, and where accuracy and timeliness are essential. Ensuring that both staff and volunteers could access relevant training, at the right time, required a more adaptable approach.
Recognising the need for a more adaptable and comprehensive solution, Age UK Lancashire sought a partner that could provide both flexibility and quality.
Me Learning’s digital platform offered exactly that.
The introduction of online learning enabled staff and volunteers to log on at times that suited them, supporting a flexible approach to working and ensured training was accessible county-wide. The breadth of the non-profit library meant learners could access a wide range of topics, from safeguarding and compliance to communication, equality, and professional development.
Crucially, regularly updated content, particularly in safeguarding and regulatory areas, gives the organisation confidence that learning remains accurate, compliant and aligned with best practice.
A Balanced and Engaging Learning Experience
A key factor in selecting Me Learning was the balance between mandatory compliance training and softer skills development.
High-quality production, interactive design and engaging content ensure that online learning feels purposeful and impactful, rather than a tick-box exercise. This has been particularly important for a diverse workforce spanning a range of frontline health care, support and managerial roles.
While safeguarding and compliance remain central, access to wider development topics such as communication, management skills and digital capability help build organisational skills and support career progression.
The digital format also promotes inclusion. Flexible pacing, clear structure and accessible design features support different learning styles, helping to create a more inclusive and engaging learning environment.
Positive Feedback and Long-Term Value
Feedback from staff and volunteers has consistently highlighted the convenience and practicality of the platform. For many, Me Learning has been their first experience of e-learning, setting a strong benchmark for what digital training can achieve.
The ability to clearly differentiate between mandatory training and additional development opportunities has enabled Age UK Lancashire to manage compliance effectively while fostering a culture of continuous professional growth.
Cheryl Speak, Director of People & Culture at Age UK Lancashire, said:
“For us, training isn’t about ticking boxes; it’s about making sure our people have what they need to do their jobs well. What we value most about working with Me Learning is that they consistently go above and beyond.
The breadth of content, the range of topics available, and the interactive, engaging design of the courses make a real difference to how our teams learn and apply that knowledge in practice. The content is kept up to date, new courses are introduced regularly, and if there’s a specific area we identify as a need, Me Learning are always open to developing it.
It feels like a genuine partnership rather than just a provider relationship.”
By embracing digital learning early, Age UK Lancashire has created a flexible, scalable training framework that continues to evolve alongside its services.
Eight years on, the partnership with Me Learning remains a key part of Age UK Lancashire’s commitment to equipping its workforce with the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to support older people across the county, today and into the future.
