Female genital mutilation (FGM) has been a criminal offence in the UK since 1985. But there’s a growing issue around British children being taken abroad by UK nationals for FGM, something which was additionally outlawed in 2003. The NSPCC estimates there are around 137,000 women and girls affected by FGM in England and Wales.
This course covers everything relating to FGM over four informative modules.
The course will increase your understanding of abuse relating to female genital mutilation. It should also help towards reducing any anxiety you may have around carrying out your safeguarding responsibilities when working with or dealing with people who have different belief systems.
In the course you’ll look at the facts and figures around FGM in the UK, attitudes towards FGM and the role of professionals in dealing with the issue.
This course is also available as part of our Cultural Awareness in Safeguarding course bundle. You will automatically get a course certificate on course completion, along with your name, the CPD hours, the date and learning objectives.
This course contains additional resource materials, useful links and four refresher guides and for complete peace of mind, there’s even the option to demo the course to see whether it’s the right FGM online training for you.
The course aims to help anyone who works with children or has regular contact with children to recognise and respond to situations where abuse linked to female genital mutilation has occurred or is likely to occur. This is useful for anyone who works in schools, healthcare, social care, faith organisations, community groups or the police. It sits easily alongside our other cultural awareness training courses.
