This course, aligned to the CSTF level 1, is aimed at everyone who might come into contact with children in the course of their work or volunteering role. It shows how to recognise all the different forms of child abuse, and explains what to do if abuse is disclosed or suspected.
- Have an understanding of what safeguarding is, and what is meant by child protection, and the duties imposed by legislation on people who work with children
- Explain what is meant by physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, and neglect, and give examples of signs of these types of abuse
- Explain what is meant by child trafficking and modern slavery
- Define forced marriage and arranged marriage, and describe what these terms mean for those under the age of 18
- Describe some of the duties given by legislation relating to FGM
- Explain what a gang is and list some of the types of abuse that may be suffered by gang members
- Define county lines and describe the effects of county lines involvement on children
- Know what constitutes online bullying and list the legislation that covers bullying offences
- Explain what child sexual exploitation is and describe the grooming process
- Define some of the terms and describe the grooming process relating to radicalisation
- List the three factors in the trio of vulnerabilities and explain how they relate to child abuse
- Give a definition and examples of of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), and explain what protective factors are
- Explain what to do if you suspect that a child is being abused
