Me Learning is designing, developing and delivering a suite of online tutorials to support the implementation of a new police software system.
4,500 staff at Northumbria Police will use our e-learning as part of the transition to the Niche RMS system, a technology system used to record information related to crimes and investigations.
We will develop bite-sized, interactive and demo-style tutorials, complete with knowledge checks, to help all become proficient in using the functionality of the Niche system and all the associated new ways of working. The system is due to be launched in early 2026 and our learning will be a precursor to instructor-led training by Northumbria Police’s training team.
Me Learning’s Director of Strategic Solutions, Shirley Berry says:
“We work with many police services and know from experience how important it is to keep learning time to an absolute minimum because of the knock-on effect abstractions have on operational duties. Our approach means people will quickly develop a sound foundation of knowledge relevant to their role, reducing the amount of instructor-led training required.
“Tech-stress is a very real phenomenon with major technology system implementations. This is especially true for people already working in high-pressured environments such as the emergency services. We need to ensure everyone’s properly prepared, so functionality feels second nature when the system goes live.
“By using innovative e-learning, we tailor the learning experience based on their role, level of digital confidence, and individual learning style. This reduces project risk and accelerates adoption.”
Me Learning is creating 74 bite-sized online tutorials. All officers and staff will complete 10 core modules, plus a selection of additional modules selected according to their role and likely use of the system. All digital content will be accessible 24/7 to suit shift and hybrid working practices, making it easier to allocate protected training time once the system is fully implemented.
Interactive tutorials will provide the core learning elements and will be designed as a pre-cursor to instructor led training, which will be delivered by Northumbria Police’s training team. This approach minimises the overall amount of training, improves quality and outcomes, and enables police trainers to focus on the elements requiring their expertise. Knowledge checks will be used to assess contextual understanding and knowledge retention. Demo-style tutorials are designed to be used for refresher training at any time. The role-based learner pathways will also form part of induction training programmes for future new starters, meaning they can use the system effectively from day one, and remain consistent with project goals.
Me Learning has worked with Northumbria Police since 2020, including in support of two other strategic programmes. We have been providing innovative learning to support system implementations for the past 19 years.
