Me Learning has developed a tailored programme of e-learning for Fulham Football Club, tackling the sensitive subject of sexual harassment in the workplace.
This new learning aligns closely with changes being made to the law a little over a year ago. This places a greater onus on employers to prevent, rather than simply deal with sexual harassment, and stiffer penalties if they don’t comply.
Our suite of learning has been carefully developed with subject-matter experts and the club, so it reflects the drive for an inclusive and welcoming culture within a modern football environment.
Eleanor Rowland, Director of Safeguarding and Inclusion at Fulham Football Club, said:
“This learning is part of a much wider effort to make Fulham Football Club as welcoming and inclusive as possible. Our project with Me Learning has produced a highly tailored programme of learning which leaves staff in no doubt of the clubs’ expectations on preventing sexual harassment. We went for a tailored learning option because we wanted club staff to have the opportunity to explore for themselves the dos and don’ts through highly practical examples which are relevant to them and their situation.
I urge other football clubs to take a bold, proactive stand against workplace harassment. Implementing training like this is not just about compliance; it’s about fostering an inclusive culture that values every employee. Football is evolving, and we must evolve with it to ensure that all individuals feel safe and respected in our workplaces.”
All 300 staff at the club – coaches, stewards and backroom staff – are participating in this programme of learning.
Learners get to:
- Recognise types of behaviour and what constitutes sexual harassment.
- Understand the personal effects of sexual harassment in the workplace.
- Build awareness of the business impacts of sexual harassment.
- Understand key legislation relating to sexual harassment at work, including the change to the law from 27 October 2024.
The training follows Me Learning’s innovative SkillStream methodology, bringing together a range of learning techniques to promote maximum engagement, enhance memory recall and boost knowledge retention. This research-based methodology substantially improves learning outcomes up to 30% better than traditional methods.
This tailored learning suite, which is fully branded and includes scenarios developed with the club, includes:
- A Skill Reel – a short engagement video which sets context.
- A 45-minute e-learning course – the main training.
- 3 Skill Sparks – 5-minute bite-sized modules which delve deeper into different topic areas.
- 2 Skill Boosts – 10-minute modules which learners can return to later for a refresher.
Me Learning also offers a ready-made version of this training, specifically designed for sports clubs to prepare their employees and volunteers for the main changes in legislation. This enables them to demonstrate that they have taken reasonable steps to prevent discrimination from arising. You can find out more here.
